Message to the Town of Hanson Residents
I wanted to take a moment to give the residents of Hanson a quick update regarding some of the measures that Hanson Police are taking regarding the COVID-19 virus. We have had to change some of our ways, at least for the short-term, and we will do our best to keep you informed. We are constantly in contact with the Board of Health, Town leadership, and Hanson Fire. We have daily updates from the Department of Public Health and MEMA. New information regarding the COVID-19 virus is constantly being fed to us to make sure we meet our obligations to the citizens of Hanson while protecting our first responders.
Some of the changes we have made are in access to the Police Station. Our lobby is open for emergencies or if you just have no other way to get assistance with your issue. The officers and civilian employees are practicing social distancing in the building. We do roll calls outside or in the garage. We eat meals alone or at least 6 feet apart. We disinfect everything and we wash our hands a lot. We need to make sure that all members of HPD stay healthy to serve you. Patrol vehicles and the station are cleaned regularly. We are accepting firearms licenses applications by mail only at this time. Records requests can be done by phone or email. We will reply via email or U.S. Mail to all requests. We are doing our best to meet the needs of the citizens while making sure our personal stay healthy.
We need you to help us too. We ask that you practice social distancing. If you call for assistance, please come outside to meet us if you can. Dispatchers will be asking questions that may not always seem pertinent to your service needs. This is to ensure the first responders can arrive with the needed equipment to protect you and them. If you see the Officers wearing a mask, don’t be alarmed. We are just taking proactive precautions. We have always prided ourselves on being helpful beyond what are normal police calls for service. We cannot help you move the giant Amazon package that was just delivered or change a tire for you. We look forward to the day we can do that again, but right now we all need to do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19. Please drive carefully, be kind to your neighbors, and do your part to flatten the curve.
We are here for you as we always have been. You will just be seeing us at a distance. We look forward to going back to our old routines as soon as possible, in the mean time relax, be kind to each other, and wash your hands.
Thank you,
Chief Mike Miksch
