Hanson Police Department Awarded $21,465 Municipal Road Safety Grant

HANSON — The Hanson Police Department has been awarded $21,465 in federal grant funding to support targeted traffic safety enforcement and education campaigns in the community.

The funding was provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and awarded by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS) Office of Grants and Research (OGR) through the Municipal Road Safety (MRS) Grant Program.

The Hanson Police Department will use the funds to participate in five statewide Traffic Safety Enforcement Campaigns — Winter Impaired Driving, Distracted Driving, Click It or Ticket, Summer Speed and Summer Impaired Driving — as well as one Pedestrian and Bicycle Enforcement Campaign.

A portion of the grant will also be used to purchase a stationary radar unit to enhance traffic monitoring and speed awareness.

The campaigns will run through September 2026, allowing officers to focus each month on enforcing and educating the public about specific traffic safety issues identified within Hanson. The decision to award this grant and target these areas was based on specific needs in town utilizing data from incidents and crashes officers have responded to.

“This grant provides important support for our department’s ongoing work to keep Hanson’s roads safe,” said Chief Michael Casey. “This grant will allow us to combine education and enforcement efforts to address behaviors that commonly lead to crashes and injuries.”
