Hanson Police Invite Residents to Attend Narcan Training and Education Session

HANSON — Chief Michael Miksch would like to invite residents to attend a naloxone training and education event tomorrow night.

WHO

Whitman Hanson WILL is a coalition funded to address substance use prevention within the communities of Whitman and Hanson. The coalition aims to raise awareness and provide education around underage drinking, non-medical use of prescription drugs, opioid abuse and overdose prevention.

WHAT

Whitman Hanson WILL is hosting a naloxone training and information session using Signature Healthcare’s mobile sim lab training program on Thursday.

Those who attend will learn how to properly respond to an overdose and will be taught how to use the overdose-reversing drug naloxone. Naloxone is commonly known by the brand name, Narcan.

The simulation features a dummy where participants can practice administering Narcan in a safe and controlled environment.

“Knowing how to read the signs of an overdose and how to properly administer Narcan can help buy precious minutes when first responders are on their way,” Chief Miksch said.

Anyone can access Narcan at a pharmacy in Massachusetts without a prescription and it will go through an individual’s insurance.
