Scam Awareness: Romance Scams 
Romance scams are elaborate scam attempts that typically begin on dating apps. Individuals may adopt a fake online identity to create emotional attachments until they are able to manipulate the victim into sending them large amounts of money.
Here are some tips for avoiding romance scams:
Be careful of what you post and make public online.
Research the person’s photo and profile to see if the image, name or details have been used elsewhere.
Go slowly and ask lots of questions.
Beware if the individual seems too perfect or quickly asks you to move communications to another application.
Beware if the individual attempts to isolate you from family or friends or request personal or financial information.
Beware if the individual promises to meet in person but then comes up with excuses why they can’t.
Never send money to anyone you have only communicated with online or by phone.
