HANSON — Chief Michael Miksch reports that the Hanson Police Department has instituted a temporary change to the firearm licensing process in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic and state of emergency.
Until further notice, firearms license renewal applications will not be processed in person, but will be accepted by mail. Applications should be addressed to the Hanson Police Department, Attn: Firearms Licensing, 775 Main Street, Hanson, MA 02367.
Click here to access the firearms application form.
Applications sent via mail must include the following:
- Completed and signed application
- Proof of residency such as a copy of your driver’s license, real estate tax bill or utility bill
- The $100 license processing fee in the form of a money order or personal check and made payable to the Town of Hanson. Renewal applications for residents over 70 years of age are free.
Upon receiving completed applications, the Hanson Police Department will mail you an official receipt.
Completed applications that are received prior to the expiration date of your current license will result in your current license remaining valid with the accompanying renewal application receipt until a decision is made to either approve or deny a renewal application.
Due to the requirement of processing fingerprints in association with “new” firearm license applications, the department will not be processing “new” applications at this time. We anticipate taking “new” firearms applications after April 6.
Residents seeking a new license or with questions regarding a license renewal should contact the Hanson Police Department Firearms Officer, Sgt. Peter Daley, at 781-293-4625 or prdaley@hansonpolice.org.
